Clips

A Clip automatically appears for every container where at least one parameter is set for the instrument. It means some parameter is influencing the output at that position. You can move clips around and create new clips with the drawing tool, or by dropping phrases from a library.

Actions

  • Click to select a clip and put it into focus.
  • Press Cut, Copy, Paste, Clear, Delete to edit the Clip as a whole. Select a target position on the timeline before you paste a clip, unless you want to replace the currently selected one.

  • Double-click on a clip to open the Phrase Editor where you can edit all parameters.

  • Right-click for a menu of commands.

  • Drag a clip to another track to move it to that Instrument. Hold down Alt to make a copy.

  • Drag a clip to a library to save a copy for later reuse.

  • Drag the end of a clip to change its length.

  • Drop a Phrase from a library to replace the contents of a clip.

Commands

  • Select multiple clips that start at the same time and do Clip > Collect Into Container to move them into a single container. This is useful to, for example, group all clips that belong to one section of your song. You can then rename the container on the sidebar's inspector.

  • Select one or more clips and do Clip > Separate From Each Other to move phrases each into their own container. You would do that when you want to subsequently collect those phrases in a different place.

Using these commands you can group and ungroup clips on the Tracks page to some extent, although you should preferably do all structuring on the Structure page, where the hierarchy is more obvious and easier to edit. If you build an arrangement exclusively on the Tracks page, the resulting heap of clips on the Structure page doesn't make a lot of sense, because it simply isn't structured anymore at all.

Tip: Use the arrow keys to move a clip if you merely want to change its position. This way you don't accidentally mess with the structure by inadvertently dropping it into another container.
